Through A Looking Glass by Horhew Through A Looking Glass by Horhew
A few days ago I thought it was a good time to polish perhaps the very first image that set me on the course on which I'm at the present moment as a digital artist. I'm talking about my mid-2005 "Through A Looking Glass", which, I might add, is one of my favourite images that I've done.

So...what's been updated: planets, gazebo design, character, jungle and other minor things.

Tech info:
-original resolution/filesize: 3200x3700px
-LightWave 9.2
-Phostoshop CS2 for post
-Vue 5 Pro and XFrog 3.5 for vegetation

That's about it I guess. Enjoy! Oh, and don't hesitate to leave your comments. :)

Is the thing dangling under the gazebo beneath the gazebo or in front of the gazebo? I'm guessing it is in front since I can see all 4 parts of the cross/plus-shaped thing above it, whereas if it was under the gazebo I'd only be able to see two parts of the plus-shaped thing and the other two would be under the gazebo. Am I right? Thanks, and sorry for my confusion.

It's under, at the end of the rope which goes through the middle of the gazebo, acting like a stabilizing weight.

Yeah really feeling the update! It deserved it  much prefer the lighting on the gazebos. However I think I prefer the other version's levels - this one looks a bit more washed out whereas the other image has really rich black sky/space at the top and the foreground elements are much darker which I think is more successful. Good idea replacing the vegetation, higher res is great :D

yeah, the contrast on the other one was higher. But on the other hand, it didn't look too realsitic. the depth of the scene forced me to add some more fog on various objects to imply distance. anyway, I can say without a doubt that I like this version a little bit more. :D

hehe I can agree without a doubt I too prefer it :P I see what you mean about the depth, I wasn't sure tho if it was the contrast you were talking about. Fair enough mate, amazing all the same!

I redo them for a chance of being included in the upcoming EXPOSE digital art book. My old stuff wasn't good enough, all my previous works needed some refinement.
And I still have 2 more images to work on.. :) I must do them until February 25th and then I'll work on new stuff.

I keep everything I've ever done. :) And yes, it's quite rewarding to look at old works and see that you've improved. That's the nice thing about art: you can only get better.
